Mobilze Conference note one

I'm at Om Malik's Mobilize conference today. Here's the first option if you are hosting or going to a conference.

Make sure the name bags can be seen. The ones used here are the standard crappy ones with a rope around your neck. The problem is fully 90% of them are turned around so you can't see the person's name. Just happens as people put them on. They twist and back side is blank.

If you are going to be at a conference and want to network, wear a name badge. If you are doing a conference, print both sides.

More later....

GigaOm is streaming the conference live (following Tony Perkins model of live streaming of all his conferences unlike Tom OReilly who makes his conferences super secret for nothing) I will be on line watching and hearing and waiting for your panel presentation.

Re name tags at conferences, I hate name tags that are printed in 10 PT font that can only be read if you are on top of your fellow attendee, name badges should be readable from minimum 5 yards away....

Rick, here are two good tips on the whole name badge matter:

1] Never use the rope around the neck option. Rather, always use the clip on the back of the badge to clip onto your outside breast pocket. (Applies mostly to men). This way, your badge never twists or gets lost behind your jacket.

2] Once you get by security and onto the floor, immediately slip your card in just above your name on the badge. This applies to people whose logo is prominent on their card. This way, you get your name and brand in front of people you meet for the first time, as well as, those people you've met multiple times but have a problem remembering you.

Regards,
George
