File under: Do not do this

I think I've mentioned this about 6 times yet is continues to happen. As in 3 seconds ago.

Here is the opening from a piece of email which just showed up:

"Rick,

After perusing the list of VC players here in Toronto, your firm met the parameters we were looking for to facilitate a $100M capital financing."

Yup. That's a One Hundred Million Dollar capital raise.

I'll cut the entrepreneur a break and not reveal anything more except to simply say don't send mail like this. It really doesn't help your cause, will likely get filed in the round bucket on the floor, and your company (or firm) will rapidly get the reputation you probably don't want.

Don't do this.

[Bonus: Don't attach a full business plan AND some NDA which I won't sign in the same mail that tells me I'm qualified to actually invest. They did, I just finished reading the email. Amazing]

How to prove you are completely out of touch

Imagine you own an iPod/touch.  You hear about some really 'cool' game called tap tap revenge.  You zip over to the Apple App store and get it.  You fire it up and start pounding on the screen. Nothing. Stuff moves around, whatever, but, like what's the point of this.

So you show it to an 11 year old sitting next to you who has an iPhone in his hand.

"So, you ever play this game?"

"Oh yeah, I have it, totally cool, amazing!"

"Really?  I don't get it. Look, I have it on my iPod/touch and, well, what do you do? I don't get this..."

"Uh, mister, you have to put you ear phones in. It's like Guitar Hero, it umm, is way better with sound. Like, see, check this out."

<sigh>

Fortunately for me, this kid is getting on a plane to New Zealand here at LAX.  He's on the boarding jet way still laughing, jumping up and down, pointing at me, while his parents give me the sympathetic "we didn't get it either" look.

If the little Kiwi's got a blog, I'm covered. I gave him Matt Murphy's business card just in case.

RedEye time.
