Last year, we saw some interesting/smart marketing (or conversation) activities that were notable.
Hugh, over at gapingvoid, is a walking testament to what really works and what really matters. His whole activity with Stormhoek Wine has been a textbook case of breaking all the rules in a ‘stable’ and ‘predictable’ industry. It’s well worth taking a read and follow the whole history. Hugh is brilliant, read his blog, hire him if you can or just buy a suit.
Then, firmly in the category of “interesting”, we have the Million Dollar Home Page brought to you by a budding young student, Alex. This was the site where you buy up pixels for a buck. Last time I looked, Alex was on his way toward making the million bucks. And, of course, there are a number of variations, copy cats, etc, popping up all over. Chalk one up for Alex.
Finally, there is Albert over at bubblelabs who is doing something firmly in the smart camp. Albert set up a wiki for people to use with respect to getting together at CES.
I point this out because what Albert has done is repeatable, works, gets positive attention, and lasting effects: Solve a problem, help somebody out. Need a room? What to know who is getting together for some fun? Don’t know were to turn with all the noise? Albert’s wiki will help you out.
As you grow your start up, keep your eye on a very simple ball: Solve problems, help people out. It really is that simple.
Check out the wiki and come visit us in CES. Well done, Albert.
Thanks for the note Rick. Lets not forget the "CESCamp" The CES Unconfernece ;)
Hope to see you and some of your readers there: http://ces.bubbleshare.com/index.php?wiki=CesCamp
